Laura never forgets a face, at any point she can pull fifty facts on a person. However, she does not often go and seek a person out after the first meeting. Peter is ....different, Laura cannot explain why but she looks for him, watches him, studies him.
She realises she wishes to talk to him again but she is not known for her conversation starters. It is hard. Eventually, she stands outside his room in the evening and waits for him to emerge. She is silent until the door opens so Peter should have no idea she is there.
When the door creaks open she catches his scent and puts her hand in the door. She peers around.
"You owe me a joke."

Date: 2014-10-30 11:59 am (UTC)It takes him a second to scale back and remember just what it is Laura's talking about. Especially after
a) hardly expecting her to appear at his door; and
b) what the hell, Spidey-sense? (
Is this thing on?)(Well, it turns out his Spidey-sense is only activated when someone wants to harm him, and this is ... not that kind of a situation, apparently.
Thankfully. )
Once that second's thought is over, Peter shakes his head, a grin spread across his face to replace confusion.
"Yeah," he says. "Yeah, I guess I do."
There's a small laugh.
"Okay, I'll need to think of a good one. Uh - do you want to come in?"
no subject
Date: 2014-11-01 07:37 pm (UTC)"Yes." She moves into the room ahead of him, she does not have a teenage girl's hangups about being a boy's room. She moves and sits down on the chair in the room. "You look better without bruises."
no subject
Date: 2014-11-01 08:02 pm (UTC)Of course, it's a lot easier to do here when the only personal effects he has are the things he came with: his camera, his backpack, and the contents within it - including a carton of eggs that sits on his desk with his --
There's a lightning quick glance over to his desk, accompanied by the sudden, sinking heart-in-his-stomach feeling, and then he visibly relaxes.
Okay, somehow he'd remembered to hide his mask before allowing company in. Possibly because he's sharing a room with someone anyway, and secret identities are a Thing.
It distantly occurs to him that Laura's just said something.
He licks his lips, rubs the back of his neck.
"Um. Thanks?" He lets out a breath of a laugh as he moves to join her, taking the edge of the bed closest to Laura's chair. "I mean, I guess most people tend to look better without bruises. They're not exactly attractive.
"How - how are you?"

Date: 2014-11-01 08:16 pm (UTC)"I am fine, Noriko put nail polish on my claws."
no subject
Date: 2014-11-01 08:28 pm (UTC)"Never had one, huh? Must be nice." He might have pretty quick regenerative powers too, but they are never going to be as rapid as Wolverine's - and by extension, Laura's.
And now his eyes are going towards her hands where she'd shown him once how the claws work.
"Uh - normal fingernails weren't good enough?"
no subject
Date: 2014-11-01 09:02 pm (UTC)She glances down at her hands. "She did not think they needed painted." She looks up. "Should they have been painted?"
no subject
Date: 2014-11-01 09:08 pm (UTC)But - yeah. From what little he knows of Noriko, having met her the one time, he's not exactly surprised that she didn't think normal nails needed painting when Laura's claws were available for the same task.
"You and Noriko are friends, I guess?"

Date: 2014-11-01 09:43 pm (UTC)"We go to the same school, we fought on the same team once"
no subject
Date: 2014-11-02 12:55 am (UTC)Yeah, he gets that.
Going to the same school and being on the same side is different from being friends. Peter hasn't actually got many of them himself, so he's well-versed in the difference.
"I met her one time. She was folding a bunch of cranes. Like, a thousand of them or something?"
no subject
Date: 2014-11-09 11:44 pm (UTC)Laura looks down at her folded hands in her lap. "I do not make friends easily."
no subject
Date: 2014-11-10 01:08 am (UTC)Not even because Laura wouldn't catch onto it, but -
It's not exactly one of those light-hearted subjects. Better go with the truthful, serious answer anyway.
"Honestly? I don't either." He leans forward, stretching his arms and trying to dispel the awkwardness and embarrassment of his confession, because no one really likes to admit they have trouble making friends - and keeping them. "I mean, I'm not exactly a popular guy."

Date: 2014-11-10 01:24 am (UTC)Peter smiles a little crooked, but it's genuine and accepting and pleased all at once.
"Y'know, I'd like that. I mean, we don't know each other too well yet but you seem pretty awesome." And he already knows she's going to be the kind of person where once you're friends with them, you're friends for life.
And the way things have been going lately, he could use a friend like that.

Date: 2014-11-10 01:39 am (UTC)Peter laughs. He hadn't exactly expected that - but he can appreciate the sentiment all the same.
Anyway, he feels a little more relaxed, and less cagey being stuck on this ship.
"We'll - um. Just try not to kill anyone, if possible.
"But thanks."
no subject
Date: 2014-11-10 02:04 am (UTC)She glances at the eggs. "Do you have an enemies on board?"
no subject
Date: 2014-11-10 02:13 am (UTC)He's been doing his best to keep to himself, pretend he's a completely normal, run-of-the-mill teenage boy with no real special talents to speak of.
This is a complete lie, of course - and the mask hidden in his things suddenly feels like it could burn a hole through them, revealing everything - but no one has to know that.
"You and the doctor guy are the first people I met on-board. Other than that, I've been mostly keeping to myself, taking the occasional picture here and there."
no subject
Date: 2014-11-16 03:03 pm (UTC)There is no developing room on board the ship as far as she knows so she doesn't expect to see the pictures unless he uses a digital camera. But she is curious. What is so interesting to him that it needs to be documented?
no subject
Date: 2014-11-16 04:05 pm (UTC)"I mean, they aren't really works of art or anything but I like documenting moments in life, the seemingly 'unimportant' stuff that you tend to remember best when you think of the 'good times'." And when you spend your 'professional' career in photography capturing only the big moments - sports games, prom, social justice events, etc. - it's a nice reprieve.
"Like now. This moment."
no subject
Date: 2014-11-28 11:05 pm (UTC)"Professional. Do you catch people unawares at these events?"
no subject
Date: 2014-11-29 06:03 am (UTC)"Nothing big happened, no epic fight or some celebration with fireworks or whatever ... but I dunno, it's still an important moment to remember."
He lifts his camera.
"Do you mind?"
no subject
Date: 2014-12-11 12:44 am (UTC)"I do not mind. I would like a photo of you to commemorate this moment." She pauses and adds, "This is the first time, I have voluntarily had my photograph taken."
no subject
Date: 2014-12-11 04:47 am (UTC)He focuses the lens, sets the aperture and shutter accordingly, and clicks the dial to a timer. He's usually not keen on being in front of the camera, and very rarely does, but Laura's request for a photo of him, too, makes him change his mind last minute.
"Put on your best cheesy smile, okay?" He laughs a little because he's not exactly sure what to expect from her but he's kind of enjoying the moment anyway.

Date: 2014-12-14 01:08 am (UTC)"They used to say 'say prunes' before they changed it to 'say cheese'."
no subject
Date: 2014-12-14 02:32 am (UTC)He shakes his head.
"I mean, that doesn't exactly get you to smile. You end up having a weird O-face."
He demonstrates with slight exaggeration for effect.
"Not exactly model-perfect."
